A TRURO-based tennis player and coach has been selected to represent England Tennis in the Four Nations Cup, which will take place in Glasgow in May.
Ryan Fern will compete in the Men’s 50-55 age category, marking another significant milestone in a playing career that continues to go from strength to strength. His selection follows a standout year in which he balanced high-level competition with his ongoing coaching work in the local community.
The Four Nations Cup brings together top players from across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, providing a prestigious international platform for senior competitors. Ryan’s inclusion in the England squad reflects both his consistent performance on court and his long-standing commitment to the sport.
“I’m delighted to have been selected - it’s a great honour after a good year at the senior competitions,” said Ryan. “I hope to build on recent successes and represent both my region and country with distinction.”
Ryan has been involved in tennis for more than three decades, and continues to combine competitive ambition with his role as a coach, inspiring players of all ages across Cornwall.
He was a recent recipient of a Grassroots to Greatness athletic grant from Snap Fitness, which supported his strength and conditioning programme, enabling him to compete at an elite level within his age group.
The Grassroots to Greatness programme supports athletes and clubs across the UK and Ireland in pursuing their sporting ambitions, with a focus on creating opportunity, visibility and community impact. More than 200 applications were received in 2025, with 12 athletes awarded grants totalling £20,000. Winners span ages 18 to 65, and represent a broad spectrum of sports and communities across the UK.
