THE story of Crantock’s lifeguarding history is being told to raise funds.

Ben Dobson is staging a talk titled lifeguarding in Crantock in the 1960s as part of the Crantock Story Café series, which will be held at Halwyn on Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm.

Money raised will be donated to Crantock Surf Life Saving Club.

Hannah Eustice from Crantock Story Café said: “This talk explores the conditions faced by Crantock’s first lifeguards and the vital role played by the local community in supporting these early lifesavers.

“A fascinating look back at a time when beach safety was still finding its feet and local knowledge, courage and community spirit were often the most important rescue tools of all.”
