A FAST food restaurant that has been a popular part of the Newquay high street for more than 30 years is closing down in the new year.

Staff have confirmed that the Burger King on Cliff Road will shut on Sunday, January 11, following negotiations between the restaurant owner BK UK and the landlord.

A staff members told the Voice: “The lease for the Burger King is not being renewed following talks between Burger King and the landlord.

“Staff were notified about the closure and then the next day a post was published on social media.

“We started to get customers coming in saying how disappointed they are as it’s been open for around 30 years. We have 14 staff working here and they are also disappointed they are losing their jobs but they are slowly finding new employment.”

Burger King has been approached for comment, but are yet to respond.

The Burger King at Treloggan Road is a franchise and is unaffected by the closure of the restaurant in Cliff Road.
