THIS week has offered two powerful reminders of what makes our town so special.

Our practical community spirit and our deep respect for local history. It was a pleasure to officially open the new Banking Hub on Bank Street.

After a period where the street's name felt like a hopeful historical reference, we have successfully put the bank back into Bank Street. This hub is a vital resource, ensuring everyone can access essential face-to-face services right in our town centre. Thanks to Cash Access for hosting and providing this much needed service.

On a different note, I was also honoured last Saturday to open the new premises for Andrew Richards Funeral Directors on Marcus Hill. The building, dating to around 1850, has been lovingly refurbished by Andrew and his wife, Karen.

A particular highlight was hearing how they meticulously restored the site's Remembrance Clock during the wider works, ensuring this important local landmark continues to stand with pride.

Looking ahead, the festive season is now in full swing. Over the coming week, I look forward to attending several community events. This is always a wonderful time of year to come together, and I hope to see many of you at these gatherings as we celebrate the heart of our community. Both of this week's openings, in their own ways, reflect the character of Newquay—a town that moves forward while cherishing its foundations. As your mayor, it is a privilege to share in these moments with you.

Phil Trebilcock Harbour View

Unsettled week of weather again. There will be plenty of rain at times. It is good to see the wishing well reinstated top of Harbour Hill and also the cliffs lit up behind the buildings. Tomorrow (Thursday) is the annual Carol Crawl with Rowing Club Singers starting at 7 pm from the Red Lion. Saturday there will be a few carols at the Harbour Mission at 4pm, then Sunday evening in the Rowing Club for annual carols at 8pm No band this Saturday at the Rowing Club.

Thought for the week: ”Hate has four letters, so does love.“
