NATURE lovers enjoyed a successful birdwatching trip in Newquay.

Eighteen people attended a Connect with Nature outing at Towan Headland.

They spotted 16 species of birds including three Black-headed Gull, two Chough, 15 Cormorant, 30 plus Gannet and 10 Great Black-backed Gull.

They also saw 150 plus Herring Gull, 15 Jackdaw, two Meadow Pipit, 18 Oystercatcher, 30 plus Purple Sandpiper, three Rock Pipit, 10 Shag, five Stonechat, one Feral Pigeon, 17 Fulmar and 50 plus Turnstone.

Rob Nicholls was the field trip leader.

Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, the founder and chair of Connect with Nature, said: “The sun was shining when they started birdwatching but after 30 minutes, it started pouring with rain. But the rain has not stopped us from birdwatching. Luckily, after 45 minutes, the rain stopped, and the sun came out again.”

“The event ended with an enjoyable coffee and tea, cheese, crackers, and ham.”
