It was a fantastic sight on Sunday morning to see over 900 runners take to our streets for the return of the Newquay 10k, in association with Wax Gym.

My heartfelt thanks go to the organisers, Newquay Road Runners, and to every marshal and volunteer who ensured a safe and enjoyable event for all.

A special well done to our very own Cllr Marco Motta who took part and finished in a great time. He rightly spoke of the brilliant, positive community feel that defined the day, a true showcase of Newquay at its best. On a more serious note, I must draw attention to our coastline.

Over the weekend, we saw another significant cliff fall above the Fly Cellars, now completely impassable. My thanks go to the Coastguard and the Cormac teams for securing the site, and to the RNLI crews who, in very tricky conditions, had to perform rescues.

After an exceptionally wet winter, our cliffs are saturated and unstable. Please, if you are walking near any cliff edges, be vigilant, stay on official paths, and give them a wide berth. Your safety is paramount. I am pleased to say that Newquay Town Council has now appointed a lead contractor on our new play park project at Mount Wise Gardens, the first play park in Central Newquay. Once designs are finalised in the coming weeks we will consult with the schools ensure we have captured what the children of our town asked for.

Another batch of rain to start the week, hopefully looking slightly better after today, with moderate winds.

There was a big cliff fall above the Fly Cellars. Luckily no one walking there at the time. A few people on the Fly Cellars were picked up by lifeboat.

New crab sizes from February 1 for male and female crabs, to help with stocks.

No band this Saturday, but the rugby will be on screen on Saturday afternoon.
