ST COLUMB Boxing Club’s Archie Scott won his and the club’s first championship at the Bristol Box Cup on Saturday, June 21.
Archie found himself in the final where he took on Chase Coleman representing the Lion Club from Bradford in Yorkshire.
The bout started well for Archie as he was landing the cleaner shots and returned to the corner one round up.
The second stanza saw Chase up the ante and levelled the scores.
But after some wise words from his father and coach, Charlie Scott, Archie regrouped and gave Chase little time to settle, doing enough to win his, and the club’s first title.
“It shows we are moving in the right direction for more champions, and hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.”

The next Saturday saw Seth ‘Diamond’ Jewell take his next step on his journey as he competed at the Torbay ABC show against home fighter Mason Bond.
This was the last bout of the season and Seth responded straight away from the first ball, taking the bout to his opponent straight away.
From there on it turned into a bit of a brawl, but with his coaches shouting from the corner to stick to the gameplan, Seth refound his rhythm and with a decent scoring blow, the ref stepped in to give Mason a standing count. However, the referee let the bout continue for the bell to sound.
Mason charged forward with intensity in the second round, throwing heavy shots trying to claw back the momentum, but the St Columb boxer stayed disciplined.
Seth moved his feet, used his angles, and stayed behind his jab with sharp lefts and rights landing cleanly, and soon forced another count.
This time the referee had seen enough and stopped the bout by stoppage.
It was a great performance, from start to finish, a display of pressure, discipline and pure boxing class from the unbeaten boxer.
The 11-year-old showed maturity beyond his years, listening to instructions and adapting mid-bout, and proving why he is one of the St Columb Boxing Club’s brightest talents.
