Steven Webb (Liberal Democrat)

Cornwall and city councillor for Moresk and Trehaverne, Truro

WE promised and we have delivered. Following the final decision by Cllr Dan Rogerson, Cornwall Council cabinet holder for transport, Edward Street and Moresk car parks will both be free after 4pm from Monday, April 13. That is a real win for Truro. It took persistence and collaboration, and it has paid off. Thanks to Cllr Rob Nolan, Truro BID and Truro City Council for their efforts in making this happen.

But let's be honest: Truro parking is the number one issue I hear about, and has been for some time. Whether you are popping into town from one of the surrounding estates or visiting from further afield, finding somewhere to park can be a frustrating experience. It puts people off coming in, which hurts high street business.

Nothing would delight me more than finding a way to reopen Moorfield Car Park. It would generate income and go a long way towards easing the pressure residents and visitors feel daily. It’s sitting there with so much potential, and I will keep pushing for a solution.

But there’s no easy fix to Truro's parking problems, and I wouldn’t insult anyone by pretending otherwise. However, we are actively working on it. Regular meetings are taking place between Cornwall Council, Truro City Council, Truro BID and key stakeholders. There are ideas on the table and a genuine willingness to make things easier. Progress may not come overnight, but it is moving in the right direction.

Finally, a little optimism. It is nice to see some sunshine at last, and I am looking forward to getting out and about. I want to hear what matters to you, whether that is storm damage still waiting to be sorted, potholes, parking or something else entirely. Do get in touch.
