VISITORS to Watergate Bay will have drinking water on tap following an initiative to reduce marine pollution.

Newquay Town Council is installing a new public water refill fountain beside the accessible cubicle by the middle of this month.

The installation is being carried out in partnership with Our Only World, a Cornwall based marine conservation charity that works to reduce plastic pollution and restore ocean health.

The fountain will be similar in design to the popular unit already in place at Porth, which was also installed through the town council’s partnership with the charity.

Tina Robinson, the founder of Our Only World, said: “We are pleased to continue our partnership with Newquay Town Council and are proud to install a water refill station at Watergate Bay.

“We extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors, The Mandy Thornton Trust and Metal Work Solutions, for their support.

“Over the lifetime of this unit, we hope to prevent approximately a quarter of a million single use plastic bottles from entering the environment.”
