FOUR US Army Chinook helicopters made a spectacular appearance at one of the UK’s smallest commercial airports on Tuesday (September 15).

Believed to be part of US president Donald Trump’s visit to Ireland, the twin-rotor military helicopters’ refuelling stop offered a remarkable contrast to Land’s End airport’s usual business of connecting Cornwall to Scilly using 16-seater Twin Otter passenger aircraft.

Airport manager Chris Pearson said: “It’s not every day you see one Chinook at Land’s End, let alone four. These are enormous helicopters, and seeing four arriving together at our airport at the very western tip of Cornwall was an incredible sight. It’s never happened before and I can’t imagine it will happen again.”
