A section of the exterior wall at Hayle’s Asda superstore building collapsed yesterday morning (Monday, February 3) while members of the public were out shopping, writes SWNS reporter Lauren Beavis.

Witnesses at the store recounted hearing an 'almighty crash' while doing their shopping as large bricks fell from the building into the car park.

Asda have said that the 'recent adverse weather conditions' from recent storms were to blame for the incident.

Images captured from the incident were taken by Zoe Yelland, 41, while she was out doing her weekly food shop at the store.

Zoe, of Hayle, said: "I had just taken my shopping back to the car, when I heard this almighty crash with dark-coloured bricks falling into a cloud of rubble.

"Everyone just stood there in shock before I shouted, 'crickey' and ran back into the store to get some attention. I told them the building has just fallen down - but luckily it fell towards the carpark not in the warehouse.

"The shop keeper said, 'not another bit!' and rushed outside too. It was quite concerning."

Zoe said part of the store's top corner had fallen down the day before, and there were some barriers in place underneath.

Zoe added: "It looks like they needed a bigger parameter fenced off. Luckily no one was injured and thankfully no one was walking past when it happened."

The store has since been closed.

An Asda spokesperson said: “Due to recent adverse weather conditions, we’ve had to temporarily close our Hayle Harbour store, and a small area outside has been cordoned off for safety.

"We’d like to thank customers for their understanding and will let them know when we’re ready to reopen.
