A SCHOOL in St Austell is £5,000 better off thanks to a lucky dip in a local store.

The Tesco Express store on Tregonissey Road ran the special lucky dip to find a golden voting token.

The customer who pulled out the token was able to decide which of three schools received the £5,000 boost as part of Tesco’s Golden Grants scheme.

Bishop Bronescombe Church of England Primary School is celebrating after being chosen and will be spending the money on state-of-the-art codable robotics to enhance engagement in computing.

Adam Scott, a teacher at the school, said: “We are so grateful to Tesco and their customers for choosing us to receive this generous grant.

“It will make such a difference to our children's experience at Bishop Bronescombe Church of England Primary School and will help us to facilitate our vision of sharing gifts and talents.

“The formative years in any person’s life are so important, and we will now get to work in using this grant to help our children get as good a start in life as we can give them.”

Store manager Ben Thomas said: “We are delighted to see Bishop Bronescombe School awarded £5,000 through our Stronger Starts Golden Grants.”
