ONE lucky customer at a shop in St Austell tomorrow (Saturday, September 6) will be in a position to grant £5,000 to a local school.
The Tesco Express store on Tregonissey Road is running a special lucky dip to find a golden voting token.
The customer who pulls out the token will be able to decide which of three schools receives the £5,000 boost as part of Tesco’s Golden Grants scheme.
The lucky dip will be held from noon to 1pm at the store and staff will be creating a party atmosphere for the occasion.
Among the schools hoping to secure the £5,000 is Bishop Bronescombe Church of England Primary School in St Austell, which is looking to invest in some state-of-the-art codable robotics to enhance engagement in computing.
Brannel School in St Stephen is another of the schools hoping to receive the grant. The secondary school is aiming to buy equipment to enable young people to be taken on navigation and expedition training events.
The third school in the running for the grant is Sandy Hill Academy in St Austell. The primary school is hoping to provide more exciting opportunities at break and lunchtimes to engage children in physical activity.
The lucky dip event is part of Tesco’s £8-million Stronger Starts programme, which supports children and young people.
Store manager Ben Thomas said: “We are delighted to be hosting Golden Grants this Saturday. Our store colleagues will be creating a party atmosphere for an event which will see a lucky customer get the chance to award a £5,000 grant.
“Tesco’s Stronger Starts programme has a fantastic track record and we look forward to giving customers the chance to help continue the great work on Saturday.”
There will be 107 Tesco stores taking part in Saturday’s Golden Grants events across the UK, which will see a total of more than £500,000 awarded to school projects.
