PLANS are proposed to convert a former specialist adult care home in Redruth into apartments.
A planning application has been submitted for a change the use of the vacant Acorn Park Lodge in Park Road into eight one bedroomed studio flats.
The operator, Achieve Together, closed the care home after ending its contracts because it could not agree with Cornwall Council on sustainable funding and fee levels to keep the specialist home running.
The Care Quality Commission had rated the specialist home as inadequate and placed the facility in special measures due to ongoing safety and management concerns.
Achieve Together chose to hand back the contracts rather than invest further in turning around the troubled facility.
Dan Mitchell Planning Ltd, on behalf of the applicant Rob Madder, stated in the planning statement: “The existing building has been vacant since the care home was closed in 2024 following an inspection. The proposal seeks to bring the building back into a viable use, whilst providing much needed residential accommodation utilising a brownfield previously developed site in Redruth.
“The buildings will be enhanced in appearance through general external maintenance and refreshed paintwork following a period of neglect from the sites previous owners.
“The conversion of the building including the realignment of the access will not cause any harm to the designated heritage asset or indeed the Redruth Conservation Area whose boundary falls approximately 250 metres to the west.
