PERFORMANCE poetry is being staged at Newquay’s most iconic landmark.

Groundswell is hosting a SproutSpoken It’s Your Shout at the Huer’s Hut on Thursday, October 2 at 6.30pm.

Poets are being invited to get involved in the event by registering to take part.

Dicky Sourey from Groundswell said: “For one night only we are bringing back SproutSpoken for a very special gathering of community, creativity and connection at one of Newquay's favourite places.

“For the fifth year running, the popular It's Your Shout! event will coincide with National Poetry Day, as voices and words are raised with the rest of the nation.

“Come and join people from the Newquay community, honouring this iconic landmark with songs, poetry and spoken word that conjure up the spirit of the Huer at this special place.

“It’s Your Shoiut is people’s opportunity to tell the world at the top of the cliff, at the top of their voice.

“People can get involved by bringing their crafted words and their vocal cords and maybe an instrument.

“People can register to come along and watch! With many thanks to Newquay Town Council and the Hut 'custodian' Jon Goodman, for enabling this annual event to take place.

“Age guidance is 14 plus as the evening is likely to contain mature themes.

“Sharing Slots are available until 6.30pm the day before the event. Additional slots may be available on the night, but priority will be given to pre-booked participants.

“In line with Groundswell's commitment to activating and animating public space in Newquay, this event is free to attend or participate, and we are not selling 'tickets'.

“However, we do ask that people still register their attendance or participation in advance. This allows us to keep an eye on the safe maximum capacity at the Hut, as well as capping the number of sharing slots.

“When registering there is also an option to make a donation towards making the event happen.

“Groundswell is a non-profit organisation, with an ambitious mission to offer a rich and exciting range of experiences at no cost to the people of Newquay. With no core-funding, all donations towards Groundswell's work are gratefully received, as this will help us to maintain an ongoing provision.

“Amongst other activities, Groundswell's work in 2025 has included providing free workshops, children's shows, spoken word events, holiday club places for those on pupil premium and most recently the first ever Look Out! Festival.”
