PEOPLE are invited to attend an ancient custom at a community garden in Newquay to help inspire a good harvest for the coming year.
Newquay Orchard is staging its annual community Wassail celebration on Saturday, January 10 between 12.30pm and 4pm.
The pagan ritual acts as a sort of blessing of the Orchard’s apple trees and to ward off evil spirits through banging, crashing and music.
The wassail will include, live Cornish folk music, family fun, a fire pit and a head wreath workshop. Mulled cider, barbecue hotdogs and an Orchard veggie hot pot will be served at the event.
A Newquay Orchard spokesperson said: “Join us in the new year as we toast the apple trees, pour our blessings into their roots for a fruitful harvest, and make as much of a din as possible to ward off any evil spirits that might be lurking in the Orchard.
“The event has proven results. We've been doing this for a few years now, and the harvest gets better every time.”
