PEOPLE keen to grow the biggest sunflower this summer are being invited to enter a competition and receive a helping hand.

The Garden Café at Trenance Gardens in Newquay is staging a sunflower growing competition and will be distributing free sunflower seeds to eager participants with every purchase.

A special treat will be offered at the cafe for the most impressive sunflower posted on their social media.

Karen Hoyle, the owner of The Garden Café, said: “With spring in full swing but desperately lacking some sunshine, now is the perfect time to embrace the joys of gardening and unleash creativity and reach for the sun.

"We're excited to see our community come together and showcase their green-fingered talents.

"Sunflowers are not only stunning to behold but also symbolise vitality and positivity, which is something we could all use a little more of right now.

“Sunflowers are also part of the RHS plants for pollinators campaign and will help the bee population thrive as well.”

The Garden Café will be looking in mid-summer to find a winner or winners chosen from all the photographs posted to its social media so there is plenty of time to cultivate a winning bloom.
