An operation is underway to ensure properties and the main road in Porth do not become covered in sand.
Cormac, on behalf of Cornwall Council, is carrying out sand clearance works at Porth Beach as part of its beach management works.
The work is due to be carried out daily until Friday, June 30 between 6am and 11am to minimise disruption to beachgoers.
A council spokesman said: “Due to the nature of our coastline, we sometimes have a build up of windblown sand, which can affect nearby properties, restrict access onto the beach and cause obstruction on the highway.
“To ensure safe access, restrict damage to properties, as well as maintain the flow of water from the local stream we need to carry out these operations.
“The sand will be moved in mounds to the edge of the stream channel, which will take the sediment back down to the lower shore of the beach. As in previous years, the sand mounds will slowly weather away.
“This is likely to take two to three weeks to clear dependent on the weather. Public access will be controlled throughout the operation. Please follow the appropriate signage to ensure
the safety of those working on site and fellow beach users. Every effort will be made to reduce the disruption and impact of our works and to complete the scheme as quickly as we can.
“We would like to thank people for their patience and co-operation while these works take place.”
Porth and Tretherras Cornwall councillor Kevin Towill added: “Everything is now in place and Cormac has started works across Porth Beach.
“This is part of a proactive approach to sand managed to help ensure that blown sand doesn’t over-accumulate and damaging local property.
“Cormac are working on behalf of the council with a local contractor to move the sand which will take several days to complete.
“The approach will be to move sand to the edge of the stream channel which will transport the sediment back down to the lower shore of the beach.
“As in previous years, the sand mounds created will slowly weather away, likely to take two to three weeks to clear dependant on the weather.
“Public access into the area of work will be controlled throughout the operation, and every effort is being made to minimise any disruption to local businesses and users of the beach.”
