Newquay Tretherras A-Level results put school’s sixth form in the top 10 per cent nationally

SIXTH form students at Newquay Tretherras are celebrating today as they received some of the strongest A-Level results in the school’s history, and nationally.

Overall, 66 per cent of the grades were at an A* to B level, with a further 30 per cent at A* to A, and an average grade of B.

Students on the applied and technical qualifications achieved an impressive average grade of Distinction*, an accolade expected to place them among top performances nationally.

Over half of these grades were a Distinction* and nearly 97 per cent were a Distinction* or Distinction – the top possible grades.

Congratulating students headteacher Gemma Harries said: “We could not be prouder of this year’s students. Their results are exceptional, but what makes this cohort particularly special is everything they have achieved alongside their studies. Their leadership and character make them outstanding ambassadors for our school and our community.”

This year’s students have achieved remarkable things inside and outside the classroom, including experiences in Borneo, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards and participating in the Winter Skills challenge.

Also among the students celebrating today are County Football Champions, Team GB surfers, England swimmers, and national-level performers in surf lifesaving.

Ms Harries added: “This group of students have represented their school, their county and their country, led others, supported their communities and served as exceptional role models. Their success is about so much more than grades, and we’re proud that NT6 is the launchpad from which they can fly.”

Top performing student, Dylan, achieved A*A*A in Maths, Physics and Further Maths. He plans to travel for a year before heading to university to continue his studies.

Chloe secured a place at the University of Bath to study Psychology. She achieved AAAA in her A levels and really valued her time at the sixth form. She said: “College seemed big and scary. I still wanted an academic path, so I chose NT6 for the support and close-knit community it offers. I love it here so I’m sad to leave.”

Sam studied A level Maths, Chemistry and Physics and was delighted to open his results. He has secured a place at the University of Leeds to study Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering after achieving A* AA.

Kiera managed to juggle training for a marathon alongside her studies this year and is now looking forward to pursuing her dream of becoming a singer. Kiera has secured a place at the British and Irish Institute of Music in Bristol to follow in the footsteps of artists like George Ezra and IDLES.

Lily and Milly have recently returned from a trip to Borneo, organised by Newquay Tretherras. They collected their results together and are ready to explore more of the world with further plans to travel.

As students now take their next steps into university, apprenticeships, employment, training and further study, the whole school community wishes them every success for the future.
