FOR some, the evening of Wednesday, August 12 was a total eclipse of their hearts as the skies delivered everything they could possibly wish for.
Right across Cornwall, people gathered to witness the spectacle of the skies, with the build up to the event, the first time in 27 years, seeing solar sunglasses in such a level of demand not seen since the days where everyone wanted a Furby for a pet.
Some gathered in the confines of their family homes, while for others it was a drive and a walk to their nearest open space -
If the world had changed substantially since an event of this magnitude last came to Cornwall in August 1999, there was one thing that hadn’t - the desire for people to witness it for themselves and with this being the social media era, capture what they saw and share it with each other.
For the older members among our communities, it was a chance to see something that they might have wondered if they would again, while for the younger generations, the excitement to see an eclipse was something that would have brought back memories for the millennials who were that age 27 years ago.
In fact, only thing we could be sure of is that the total eclipse didn’t bring about a blue moon, but for a brief moment, the sun didn’t shine on TV.
Our readers across Cornwall have shared their own ‘moon moments’ with us as part of the big occasion and you can see the best of it here.
