Enthusiasts enjoyed letting off some steam at the annual vintage rally held at St Mawgan.

Thousands of people attended the 17th St Mawgan Steam and Vintage Rally staged at Trevenna Cross.

The event showcased steam engines, dancing diggers, craft tent, tractor display teams, dog show, Motorbike Limbo, vintage teas and Fergy Fillies.

There were also dinosaurs, racing mowers, Landrovers, tractor pulling, fairground rides, children’s tractor parade, Wild West re-enactment team, a tractor driving challenge, clay pigeon shooting, food and drink and a car boot.

Johnny Cowling and Fleetwood Mac tribute band Tango in the Night provided the entertainment.

Chairman Dave Taylor said: “The rally was another very memorable event.

“An earlier start this year saw the rally open at 6pm on Friday evening with tractor pulling under floodlights, fairground rides in action and a wide selection of food from several vendors.

“At 9pm, the fantastic Tango in the Night entertained the crowd with music from Fleetwood Mac but, the highlight for many was when Kenny and Esther finished their act with two operatic renditions and received a standing ovation.

“Saturday saw the rally in full swing and record numbers came through the gate.

“All the old favourites were there as well as a newly extended 4x4 track, a circus school, dodgems, a bigger and better dog show, and a visit from the Air Ambulance when it dropped in for half an hour.

“At night, Johnny Cowling was there to entertain another packed marquee and all the signs were that this was going to be another record-breaking event.

“However, Sunday morning saw the weather deteriorating and by lunchtime, the very regrettable decision had to be taken to close the rally early.

“It was such a shame because everything was going so well. However, our fantastic rally family all went away happy and are already looking forward to next year.”
