Prime Cattle
Prime Cattle looking a slightly improved trade on previous weeks, with another good quality entry across the board.
Top price to a 712kg Limousin steer from Mrs J Julian of Summercourt, Newquay at 395p/kg and top pounds-per-head of £2,812.
Next up was a pair of good bullocks tied at 382p/kg being a 645kg Limousin steer from Mrs Julian at £2,464 and a 665kg Shorthorn heifer from Messrs J Lutey & Sons of Grampound Road, Truro at £2,540.
A smart 695kg Limo steer from Mr W J P Julian of Summercourt, Newquay parted away at 372p/kg (£2,585), a 703kg Limo steer from Mrs Julian at 370p/kg (£2,601) and a trio of further top quality Limousins from both Mr Julian and Mrs Julian at 368p/kg (£2,745) and 358p/kg twice (£2,556 & £2,746).
Messrs T A & A M Wills of St Erme, Truro saw their best Limousin heifer sell for 352p/kg and their best steer at 350p/kg and a heavyweight 789kg OTM Limousin steer from Mr T Eustice of Crantock, Newquay at 345p/kg (£2,722).
Cull Cows
A similar trade to last week with the better types looking well sold again.
Joint top of 290p/kg for a Simmental cow from Messrs A P & S R Hooper of Castle-an-Dinas, St Columb (£2,027) and a Blue cow from Mr L Vague of Baldhu, Truro.
Next up was a good Blonde cow from Messrs Brewer & Brewer of St Merryn, Padstow at 288p/kg (£2,079) and a Blonde cow from Messrs Hooper away at 284p/kg (£2,187).
Mr D R Mitchell of Lower Penponds, Camborne sold his good Charolais cow away at 281p/kg, a Limousin cow from Mr C R Broom of Trenance, Newquay realised 280p/kg and an Angus cow from the same farming at 265p/kg.
A trio of cows tied at 260p/kg being a Simmental from Messrs Hooper, a Blue from McCardell & Thompson Ltd of Summercourt, Newquay and a Friesian from the same farm being top dairy type.
McCardell & Thompson saw their further Blue cow sell at 260p/kg and their pair of Friesians at 248p/kg and 244p/kg and a Jersey cow from Mr J Wilkinson of Constantine, Falmouth trading at 230p/kg.
A single Friesian cull bull from McCardell & Thompson tipped the scales at 1,079kg and made 260p/kg (£2,805).
Store Cattle
A tight entry but a smart trade for all on offer. Smashing 2yr old steers in for R M Farming Co of Sticker, St Austell sold to £2160 for Herefords, £2155 for Limousins and £1800 for Devons, whilst 1½ yr old natives from Mr W R Beard of Germoe, Penzance achieved £1890 and £1720.
Messrs S & L Awdry of Ladock, Truro sold 2yr old Angus steers to £1880 whilst the choice steers from a vast consignment of 54 Aberdeen Angus stores from Mr C R Broom of Mawgan Porth, Newquay realised £1675, £1660 and £1505.
Younger steers to £1505 for a top quality pair of 10 mo Simmentals on behalf of Messrs R A F, R M & R A Roberts of Gweek, Helston, followed by a pair of young South Devons from Messrs A M & V R Pascoe of Gweek, Helston achieving £1390. Ms C Goodwin of Portscatho, Truro sold a single 15 m.o. Shorthorn steer to £1340.
Heifers topping at £1660 for a pair of 1½ yr old Angus on behalf of Mr R T Dunn of Par, St Austell who sold a further trio to £1555, followed by a 2yr old Angus heifers from Mr Broom to £1520 who sold further lots to £1380, £1315 and £1305.
A single 21 m.o. Angus from Rosenithon Farm of St Keverne, Helston parted away at £1510, whilst the best of the young heifers came from Messrs Pascoe, a pair of 14 m.o. South Devons to £1440. In-calf cows topping at £2050 on behalf of Mr Broom.
Rearing Calves
A storming trade to report with a strong buyer demand seen for the first-class entry of calves, selling to a packed ringside.
Joint top price of £670 awarded to both a 5 w.o Limousin steer calf from W P & J Jenkin Ltd of St Martin, Helston as part of their 10 strong run of quality calves and the second a sweet Simmental bull calf from Mr L Vague of Baldhu, Truro.
One bid behind was a smart month-old Angus bull from Messrs Searle & Son of Rosudgeon, Penzance at £665, followed by a quality 2 m.o Blue bull from Messrs P J Grylls & Sons of Kenwyn, Truro looking well sold at £655.
Messrs A D & J A Bray of St Martin, Helston saw their month-old Limo bull trade at £640, a same aged and breed bull from Messrs C J & J E Colwell of Grampound, Truro at £620, another young Angus bull from Messrs Searle at £600 and a smart pair of 5 w.o Hereford steers from W P & J Jenkin at £595.
Heifers just as strong topping at £640 for a 5 w.o Limo from W P & J Jenkin, Messrs Grylls back in the ring with their 2 m.o Blue at £570 and a single 3 m.o Limousin from Mr R G Rowe of London Apprentice, St Austell at £555.
W P & J Jenkin Ltd saw their 5 w.o pair of Hereford heifers away at £545, a 2 m.o Hereford heifer from Messrs K & M Ferris of Gunwalloe, Helston tied with a 4 m.o Shorthorn heifer from Mr Rowe at £515 and a trio of heifers at £500; being a Simmental from Messrs Bray, a Limousin from Messrs Grylls and a month-old Blue from Messrs J A Sweet & Parters of St Newlyn East, Newquay.
Overall bull calf average of £580 per head and overall heifer calf average of £515 per head.
Finished Hoggets
Numbers drying up quickly and just a handful in this week though another fast trade with a top price of £212.50 for a 73.5kg pair in from Ms L Evans of St Mawgan, Newquay.
A single from Mr J P Dunstan of Wendron, Helston achieved £190 which was also realised by a 56kg pair from Mr R A Coad of Cubert, Newquay. Hoggs from Mr Coad also set the premium to 368p/kg for his handy 40kg pair.
New Season Lambs
Good numbers forward and a fiery trade prevails.
Several pens of shapely well-finished lambs selling to a top call of £220 for a single 58kg Dorset from Mrs M Stead of Tresillian, Truro sold to L C Farms Ltd of Hatherleigh.
Setting the premium at 463p/kg for meaty 40.3kg lambs from Messrs C R Elliott & Partners of Portloe, Truro purchased by R J Trevathen Ltd of Roskrow.
Cull Ewes
Continued strong trade for cull ewes topping at £221 for a Charollais for Messrs R J Vincent & Son of Blackwater, Truro, and with the overall average standing at £170/head.
Texels to £209 and £196 again for Messrs Vincent; £196 for Messrs P T R & P E Jones & Son of Crantock, Newquay; £194 for Messrs C H P Powell & Sons of St Ervan, Wadebridge; £191 for Messrs K & D McFadden of St Just, Penzance; £190 & £187 for Chytodden Farm of Towednack, St Ives. Black Faced ewes to £196 again for Messrs Vincent.
Bluefaced Leicester to £188 for Mr A S P Wright of Penhallow, Truro. Suffolk to £183 for Messrs R A & R S Bassett of Helston; and £171 for Messrs C P & K L Wearne of Wendron, Helston.
Suffolk Mule to £179 for Mr D J Tremain of Bridge, St Columb; and £176 for Messrs J M & S J Folland of Shortlanesend, Truro. Dorset to £170 again for Chytodden Farm.
Fewer 2 tooths this week, topping at £206 for a Texel from Mr R A Coad of Cubert, Newquay followed by £176 for a big Suffolk Mule from Mr W D Pascoe of St Newlyn East, Newquay.
Rams to £178 for a Lleyn from Mr D & Mrs S Searle of Wendron, Helston and £168 for a Texel from Messrs K S & L Dodd of Old Kea, Truro.
Store Sheep
Numbers extremely short and many more needed.
Couples from Mr W G Bray of Mullion, Helston achieved £270 and £250 for doubles and £175 for singles.
