INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed virtuoso guitar duo Duo Destino bring their electrifying blend of flamenco, classical, and contemporary guitar to Old Bakery Studios tomorrow night (Friday, May 15).
Musicians Ben Bruant and Will Cashel have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting and genre‑defying guitar duos, their sound so rich and layered, audiences often remark it feels like more than two musicians are on stage.
Their concerts are known for warmth, humour, and breathtaking musicianship, from lightning‑fast fingertip work to rhythmic tapping on the guitar body that transforms their two instruments into a full percussive ensemble. The combination has earned them a devoted following across the UK and Europe.
Since meeting at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2011, Le Havre-born Ben and Bath-bred Will have captivated audiences at venues from Glastonbury to the Bahrain Grand Prix, as well as intimate venues across France, Italy and Spain. Their music fuses Latin‑inspired originals with bold, flamenco‑infused arrangements of everything from Albéniz to Daft Punk, Dire Straits, and The Gipsy Kings.
Duo Destino became national favourites during the pandemic with their Gigs In Your Garden project - 70 free concerts performed for NHS and frontline workers. An album inspired by these performances was released on Demon Records. They were also the house band on Susannah Constantine’s podcast My Wardrobe Malfunction.
Tomorrow’s concert marks Duo Destino’s return to a city where they have built a loyal and enthusiastic audience over the years. “We always look forward to playing in Truro,” says Will. “The audiences have a wonderful way of being fully present with the music – warm, welcoming, and incredibly engaged. Old Bakery Studios has a unique atmosphere, and bringing our new set to Cornwall feels like coming back to a place that genuinely supports live performance.”
The show runs from 7.30pm to 10pm.
