Emergency services were called after a group of bodyboarders were caught in a rip current at Crantock Beach on Friday afternoon.

Both Newquay RNLI Lifeboats and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to attend the incident shortly after 1pm.

Five individuals had managed to self rescue prior to the teams arrival and the lifeboats confirmed there was no one else in difficulty in the water.

The group were given sound safety advice by a mobile RNLI Lifeguards Newquay patrol.

A Newquay Coastguard spokesman said: “Always swim at a lifeguarded beach. If you see someone in difficulty dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

“Stay safe.”
