An elderly woman sustained "life changing" injuries after being involved in a collision at Blackwater on Monday.

The woman in her 70s from St Agnes was driving her car along the B3277 when she collided with a HGV at about 11am.

The casualty was trapped in her car after the accident and was extracted by fire crews. She was initially taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The car driver, a woman in her 70s from St Agnes, sustained serious injuries, described as life changing.

"She was initially taken to Treliske Hospital but later transferred to Derriford Hospital.

"The HGV driver was uninjured.

"The road was reopened at 3.40pm."
