ARSON

MARINA WILDISH, 44, of NFA, St Austell was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered after she set fire to property belonging to LiveWest Housing at College Green, St Austell on 29 November. She was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 18 June.

SEX OFFENCES

NICHOLAS LENTON, 43, of The Crescent Residential Care Home in Newquay has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with, at St Austell in January 2024, intentionally touching a woman in a sexual way without her consent. His case was listed for 13 June.

JOOLS EASTWOOD, 34, of Rialton Heights, Newquay pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a man at Newquay Police Station on 26 March. He will be sentenced on 17 June.

STEPHEN HADLEY, 50, of Par Farm, Par pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to making around 35,000 indecent images of children including the most serious category A. He was given a 12-month custodial sentence suspended for 24 months and was put on a daily curfew to remain at his caravan at Par Farm between 8pm and 8am for four months and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order restricting his use of the internet. He has to pay a £187 victim surcharge.

CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY

JORDAN WILDEN, 30, of Coxpark, Gunnislake pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to causing serious injury to a man by dangerous driving on Cliff Road, Newquay in October 2023. A second charge of grievous bodily harm with intent was discharged. He was given a 24-month prison sentence suspended for two years and has to do 300 hours unpaid work. He was banned from driving for 30 months when he will have to pass an extended test. He also has to pay his victim £2500 compensation.

ASSAULT

GERALD VENNER, 39, of Albert Road, St Austell had charges of assaulting a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm in St Austell on 23 November and on 3 December discharged when he appeared at Truro Crown Court. However, he was made subject to a restraining order not to contact the woman until May 2030.

MYLES HARRISON, 37, of Beech Road, St Austell pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a police officer at Polgover Way, Par in March 2024. He pleaded not guilty to assaulting a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm, not guilty to assaulting a man by beating and not guilty to criminal damage at the property – these counts were discharged. He was given a 28-day prison sentence consecutive to a sentence imposed on 2 May by Truro Crown Court.

DAVID REYNOLDS, 24, of Landreath Place, St Blazey pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a man in St Austell on New Year’s Day 2023 occasioning him actual bodily harm. He was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and has been put on a six-month curfew to remain at his home between 7pm and 5.30am daily. He has to do 240 hours unpaid work and pay his victim £5000 compensation.

JACK CLARK, 32, of St Marys Road, Par who appeared at Truro Crown Court charged with maliciously wounding a man and possessing a knife at Farrow Fordh, Roche on 1 April 2023 has changed his pleas to guilty. He continues to deny a charge of wounding with intent. The case was adjourned until 3 July and he was released on conditional bail not to contact his victim or go to Farrow Fordh, Roche.

WALID MARDEI, 40, of Penarwyn Road, St Blazey pleaded not guilty to assaulting a woman in St Austell last October. The case was adjourned until 24 October.

HARASSMENT

HARRY TANGYE, 56, a former police officer, of Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay pleaded not guilty to harassing a woman in Newquay between 25 August and 7 September by sending letters via email to discredit Sofia Cann to her employer, a university in West Yorkshire. The trial will be held on 7 November and a direction was made that Tangye will not be allowed to cross-examine the woman in person. He was released on conditional bail not to contact Ms Cann.

JAMIE COON, 32, of High Cross Street, St Austell has pleaded guilty to harassment by breaching a restraining order between New Year’s Eve and 9 January by contacting, calling, approaching and speaking to a woman he was prohibited from contacting. He was committed to Truro Crown Court for sentence in custody on 12 June.

DANIEL COMMON, 27, of NFA, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman at Gover Park, St Austell on 21 April and not guilty to an assault by beating at Truro Road, St Austell on 13 May. The case was adjourned until 14 July.

OFFENSIVE WEAPONS

NICHOLAS BURNAND, 47, of Barn Lane, St Columb has had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to appear at Truro Crown Court to answer charges of possessing two offensive weapons, an improvised cosh and a knife, at Newquay in August 2023.

FRAUD

DANNEKA ANNETTS, 38, of Poltair Court, St Austell pleaded guilty to one charge of fraud when she used someone else’s bank card at Spar in Liskeard, four charges of theft from shops, theft of a bag containing cards and cash from a man at St Austell railway station and criminal damage to a fire door at Tesco in Daniels Lane, St Austell last September. She was given a community order and has to compensate her victims for their losses.

SASHA MAY, 42, of The Queens Head in St Austell pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to using a bank card belonging to someone else at Applegreen Services in St Austell in October to gain £89.15. She was given a community order and must have treatment for her drug addiction and pay £114 victim surcharge.

THEFT

MATTHEW BRAY, 31, of Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay failed to turn up to court to answer two charges of shoplifting. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

JASMINE DOUGHTY, 26, of Travelodge, Cliff Road, Newquay failed to turn up to court to be sentenced for shoplifting and receiving stolen goods. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

MARI SEWELL, 51, of Treffry Way, Par pleaded guilty to stealing £33 worth of household items from the Coop in Roche last November. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and was ordered to pay £33 compensation, a £26 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

MICHAEL GLANFIELD, 55, of Treffry Way, Par pleaded guilty to stealing £400 worth of alcohol from the Coop in St Blazey jointly with Andrew Paull on 16 February. He was ordered to pay £400 compensation.

DRINK/DRUG DRIVE

EDWARD WILLEY, 52, of Escape Hotel, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving a Transit van on the A30 at Sourton Cross with 74 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 40 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

JAMIE HALLAM, 18, of Sycamore Close, St Columb pleaded guilty to riding a motorbike on the A392 near Mountjoy, Newquay on 7 April with 41 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 12 months, which will be reduced by 12 weeks if he completes a course, fined £200 and ordered to pay a £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

JAYNE BROCKLESBY, 52, of Meadow Rise, Foxhole changed her plea to guilty on a charge of driving on Edgcumbe Road, St Austell on 23 December whilst unfit through drink. She was given a 12-month ban which will be reduced by three months if she completes a course, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £135 costs.

GEOFFREY HAWKEN, 67, of Gannet Drive, St Austell pleaded guilty to driving on Sandy Hill, St Austell on 18 April with 92 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 23 months which will be reduced by 23 weeks if he completes a course, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

MICHAEL GLANFIELD, 55, of Treffry Way, Par pleaded guilty to driving on the A30 at Okehampton last August with 635 micrograms of BZE per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 50, to driving while disqualified and without a licence and failing to surrender to court bail. He was sent to prison for 12 weeks because of his previous record of convictions and lack of motivation to engage with probation and banned from driving for five years, one month and 13 days.

ADRIAN BEATSON, 55, of Par Lane, Par changed his plea to guilty on a charge of driving on Bridge Street, St Blazey on 25 November with 66 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 18 months which will be reduced by 18 weeks if he completes a course, fined £135 and ordered to pay a £54 victim surcharge and £135 costs.

SPEEDING

MARK HARDMAN, 51, of Rialton Corn Mill, Newquay pleaded guilty to speeding on Tregolls Road, Truro in a Porsche Panamera. He was given a six-month points disqualification, fined £256 and ordered to pay £102 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
