LOS ANGELES harpist and composer Mary Lattimore will be returning to Newquay for a rare live performance on Friday, November 28 at St Micheal’s Church, presented by ALMA Artspace.

Lattimore will be joined by Neil Halstead (Slowdive) on guitar to perform material from their critically acclaimed album Silver Ladders, recorded together in Cornwall back in 2020, as well as performing a varied selection from her canon of work.

This will be Mary’s only UK performance on this trip, ahead of recording a new album with Halstead at his North Cornwall studio.

The evening will also include support from Voguebeloth. Born from the echoing walls of a Cornish chapel, Voguebeloth weave distortion and ambience into improvised soundscapes.

Lattimore’s ethereal, experimental harp music - layered with effects and synth - has earned her international recognition and collaborations with artists including Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, and Thurston Moore.

She experiments with effects through her Lyon and Healy Concert Grand pedal harp, concocting half-structured improvisations which can include both ambient glitter and unsettling noise.

Her solo debut album, The Withdrawing Room, was released in 2013 on Desire Path Recordings. Lattimore also writes harp parts for songs and recordings, performing and recording with artists such as as Meg Baird, Thurston Moore, Jarvis Cocker, Steve Gunn, Ed Askew and Fursaxa.

In 2020, she travelled to a wintery Newquay, where she recorded Silver Ladders with Neil over a span of nine days. Her signature style is refined, sprawling layers of harp reigned in and accented by flourishes of low-end synth and Halstead’s guitar. The music can feel ominous but not by compromising vivid wonder.

Every ticket supports ALMA Artspace’s community arts programme in Newquay, helping with their ongoing creative programme and future events.
