A ROAD collision is causing traffic chaos for morning commuters heading into Plymouth from the Tamar Bridge.

The incident happened on the A38 today (Wednesday), close to the St Budeaux junction.

The collision appears to have involved one vehicle, with police and ambulance service currently at the scene.

Heavy traffic is building on the approach to Plymouth, with congestion stretching back towards and beyond the Tamar Bridge.

Drivers heading into the city are being warned to expect delays as emergency services deal with the incident.

Further details about the incident, including whether anyone has been injured, have not yet been confirmed.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and consider avoiding the area where possible while the incident is dealt with.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported at 8.41am that the crash had now concluded, however heavy delays remain.

It said: "Long delays due to earlier accident on A38 Expressway Eastbound at B3413 ( St Budeaux Junction). Congestion to Carkeel Roundabout. Lane one (of two) was closed."
