Latest golf results from Newquay and St Austell

NEWQUAY Golf Club held their annual Captain’s Charity Day on Saturday, August 29 with the quartet of Richie Selwyn, Marc Combes, Ian Chambers and David Carter emerging winners.

Their tally of 95 points was three ahead of Joseph Edwards, Liam Prestidge, Arthur Edwards and Arlo Richards who were two clear of Thomas Whitlock, Manjil Gurung, Harry Bason and Paul Quinn in third.

Brendan Cavanagh, Abi Crosswood, Zephyr Taylor and James Taylor’s tally of 89 took fourth with 86 from Tom Eggins, Robert Walker, Matthew Jones and Aaron Murphy being good enough for fifth.

In the club’s ladies section, they competed for The President’s Bowl on Tuesday, August 25.

Katie Champion’s 44 points was enough for victory with Susan Hodge (40), Annie Lobb (34) and Sarah Start (34) in second, third and fourth respectively.

The nine-hole Stableford was won by Joyce Cain with 20 points, on countback from Eileen Phipps. Jo Toms was third with 19.

ST AUSTELL Golf Club saw over 870 players take part in a festival week of golf at the end of August across a variety of formats. A very successful week and the weather, for the most part, was superb.
