Kernow Stone St Piran League Tracy Banfield Cup first-round – Saturday, October 25

SALTASH United ensured St Just’s long trip up from West Cornwall ended in defeat as the Ashes ran out 6-1 winners at Kimberley Stadium.

Ben Waters was the star of the show for the defending Premier Division East champions – notching a hat-trick, while Ryan Knight (2) and Frazer Ferris also chipped in.

St Just scored in the 15th minute via Jack Willis.

While Illogan RBL and North Petherwin were handed walkovers by Bodmin Town and Praze-an-Beeble respectively, there were plenty of goals in the other ties, none more so than at Altarnun who were edged out in a nine-goal thriller by Penryn Athletic.

The Nuns were 2-0 down inside 22 minutes thanks to Lewis Moyle’s 15th minute opener which was added to Felix Braxton.

But Altarnun are much-improved this term and came roaring back as after Josh Kingdon pulled one back just before the break, Toby Knights notched a eight-minute hat-trick to make it 4-2 with 58 minutes gone.

But Athletic were level as Mawgan Langdon-Heller scored twice inside 10 minutes, the latter 10 minutes from time.

Braxton then completed a brilliant turnaround on 89 minutes as the hosts were left stunned.

Porthleven were another West Division side to go through as they saw off Looe Town 2-1 away from home.

The Fishermen led at the break via Thomas Booth before Jack Woollett levelled midway through the second half for the hosts.

Into extra-time they went, but sub Riley Robertson ensured Porthleven made the long trip home with a place in the next round.

Two all-West clashes ended with victories for St Ives Town and Mullion.

The Ivies saw off neighbours Ludgvan 3-0 thanks to Ross Duncan (2) and David Booles, while Mullion ground out a 2-1 success at a Hayle side second in the league.

Jevon Pryce and an own goal got the job done for the Seagulls, who conceded to Kieran Rennard.

The rest of the ties were won by East Division sides.

St Austell Reserves thrashed St Day 5-1 which included doubles from Sol Wilson and sub Josiah Chapman and a goal from Frankie Trevarton, while the local derby between Foxhole Stars and Sticker went the way of the Stars in a 2-0 victory which came via Courtney Rowe and Andrew Butler.

Another all-East affair saw Gunnislake ease past high-flying Polperro 3-0 at Butts Meadow.

Fletcher Cook put Gunni into a half-time lead which was added to in the final 20 minutes by Denzel Chivizhe (73) and Jamie Court (90).

Millbrook Reserves’ lengthy trip to Perranwell ended in a 4-0 victory with Harry Stacey, Josh Payn, Oliver Small and Joshua Babb on target, while Owen Royes got the only goal at St Mawgan won at Redruth United.
