THE 35th World Pilot Gig Championships brought another unforgettable weekend of competition and camaraderie to the Isles of Scilly from May 1 to 3.
On Saturday, Falmouth in Fury delivered a commanding performance in the Women’s Vets, while a new Helford River crew were the victorious Women’s Super Vets. Devon’s Appledore in Whitford powered into first place in the Open Vets, and Caradon in Amazon secured their fifth consecutive title in the Open Super Vets.
In Sunday’s Open Final, Falmouth A in Fury led from the outset to take a decisive victory, ending Looe’s six-year winning streak. Following an intense early battle between three crews, Helford River in Voose pulled ahead to secure the Women’s Senior title.
Other category winners (women and open): Ictis (Mounts Bay) and Tregarthens (St Mary’s, Scilly), 25 and under; Masters, Kensa (Mounts Bay) and Ann Glanville (Caradon).
