On Sunday May 11 2025 Launceston Velo are organising the Moor2Moor challenge for the 3rd year, the event has grown in rider numbers each year and is becoming a popular event with cyclists across the UK.
The concept was to organise a ride which would be a little different to the sportives that are organised across the country. As Launceston sits between Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor it seemed sensible to utilise the natural beauty and difference of the two moors to produce a very challenging event for the more advanced cyclist, and a more manageable but still challenging ride for the less advanced cyclists.
From this simple concept the two routes were agreed:
- A 200km(124mile) ride out over Bodmin Moor via Davidstow Airfield, St Breward, Blisland, Warleggan, Colliford, Jamaica Inn and Pensilva to a food station at Golberdon, catered by North Hill WI, and then on to Tavistock, Pork Hill up to Princetown, Moretonhampstead, Okehampton and back to Launceston
- A 100km route following the route to Golberdon and then back to Launceston via Coads Green, Congdon Shop, Kennards House and Tregadillett.
We have riders from Kent, Gloucestershire, South Wales, Buckinghamshire as well as amazing support from local cycle club members, Okehampton CC, Tavistock Wheelers, Wadebridge Coasters, Holsworthy CC, Plymouth Corinthians, Callington and Liskeard to name but a few.
The aim is to raise as much money as we are able for Sarcoma, the soft tissue and bone cancer charity as one of our members has been fighting the disease for many years, as well as to promote Launceston as a Town, so it would be nice to see as many local people coming out to support the event, riders and Sarcoma.
Launceston Velo would like to thank the following businesses for supporting the event by providing sponsorship:
- Launceston Cycles Firebrand Brewery Maunders
- W. Penhale Motor Engineer The Coffee Pot
We also appreciate the support from both Launceston Town Council, for use of the Town Hall for registration, and from English Heritage for allowing the use of Castle Green.
The event starts and finishes in Castle Green, riders will leave between 7am and 8am and will start to return around midday with the last riders finishing around 6pm.
