Trelavour Lithium Project

Section 47 of The Planning Act 2008

Notice publicising a Statement of Community Consultation

Cornish Lithium G5 Limited (Company Number 13088939) of Tremough Innovation Centre, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9TA, United Kingdom (the Applicant) has published a Statement of Community Consultation (SoCC) in accordance with Section 47(6) of the Planning Act 2008 (as amended by section 134 of the Localism Act 2011) (the Act).

The Applicant is seeking a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the proposed Trelavour Lithium Project (the Project). A DCO is required because the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has decided that the Project should be treated as a project of national significance. The Project is an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) development, as defined in the Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017. As such, the Applicant has prepared a Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR), which will inform consultation and the production of a final Environmental Statement.

The Trelavour Lithium Project

The Applicant is proposing to develop a state-of-the-art facility for lithium extraction, processing, and refining, located in Cornwall’s historic mining district near St Dennis. Repurposing a former china clay pit, it will mine lithium-rich granite to help build a secure, domestic lithium supply for the UK.

The Trelavour Lithium Project will include:

  • mining operations at the Trelavour Pit;
  • processing of lithium into battery-grade products at the Trelavour Processing Plant;
  • mining waste facilities, including the Goonvean and Treviscoe pits, which will be restored using processing waste; and
  • additional infrastructure, including pipelines, transport access, and conveyors.

The SoCC

Before making its application, the Applicant has a duty, under Section 47 of the Act, to produce a SoCC and to consult the community on its proposals. The Applicant is also required to produce a Consultation Report detailing how the public’s views have been taken into consideration and how the Applicant has complied with the Act, including undertaking consultation as set out in the SoCC.

The Applicant has therefore prepared a SoCC that explains how people living in the vicinity of the Project will be consulted throughout the pre-application process, and how it intends to consult on the Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR), which will inform the final Environmental Statement (ES).

This notice provides a formal notification of the publication of the SoCC and where it can be viewed.
