THE town of Wadebridge and the Royal Cornwall Showground feature today as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “I have happy memories of Wadebridge going back to my childhood. Strange to say, I particularly remember visiting a launderette there during a family holiday!

“Years later, I had a role in helping to design the branding and marketing material for the annual Royal Cornwall Show held on the outskirts of the town. It was always a thrill to walk around the packed showground each year seeing the designs I had worked on being displayed prominently.”

Wadebridge is a pleasant town on the banks of the River Camel around five miles from Padstow.

The Camel Trail cycle route passes through Wadebridge, with the path to the north west heading for Padstow and the path to the south east taking cyclists in the direction of Bodmin, some seven miles away.

The route, which passes under the impressive A39 Wadebridge Bypass Viaduct, follows the course of an old railway so it is relatively flat.

The town’s former A39 bridge, with its many arches, dates from the 15th-century and is grade II* listed.

Wadebridge is home to the Royal Cornwall Showground which hosts a number of events throughout the year with the centrepiece being the Royal Cornwall Show which celebrates life, particularly agricultural life, in the county.

Next time, we will be visiting Rock, the waterside village opposite the town of Padstow.
