THE fantastic surf at Perranporth features today, as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.
“For the latest part of the tour, we are following the extensive northern coast of Cornwall in a generally north-easterly direction. This coastline has some lovely scenery and is well worth a visit.”
Perranporth is one of the main centres for surfing in Cornwall. The glistening Atlantic breakers speed surfers and bodyboarders towards the shore under the watchful eye of lifeguards who make sure everyone stays safe.
Rip currents can cause problems here, so always make sure you swim between the flags put up by the lifeguards and obey any instructions they give.
The sandy beach at Perranporth is huge, so there’s plenty of space for games and sunbathing. There’s also a seawater swimming pool built into the back of Chapel Rock on the beach.

The town lays claim to having introduced some of the first surfboards in the country - made after the First World War and crafted by a local undertaker out of coffin lids!
Away from the beach, the town has pleasant public gardens with a boating lake.
Next time, we will be just around the corner from Perranporth’s beach on the wide and sometimes wild expanse of Perran Sands.

Our extensive tour around Cornwall, visiting well-known spots but also lesser-known locations, offers something for everyone, from sandy beaches, remote moorland, storm-beaten cliffs and scenic rivers to historic towns, pretty villages, mining heritage sites and visitor attractions.
