WITH the summer holiday season in full swing, the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County, by today focusing on the beautiful area around Daymer Bay and Polzeath.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “People have lived in the district for a very long time – back to at least the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

“Some of the ancient peoples lived on the remote coast to the north of Polzeath, an area now under the care of the National Trust and a remarkable place to visit.”

Daymer Bay offers a sandy, relatively sheltered beach that links up, when the tide goes out, with long expanses of sand on the Camel estuary shoreline.

Next to the beach is Brea Hill which has good views of the surrounding area and features Bronze Age burial mounds.

A little to the north is the resort of Polzeath. The sandy beach here faces the Atlantic and benefits accordingly from great waves for surfing.

The coast path out of Polzeath takes you to the dramatic headlands of Pentire Point and The Rumps.

From Pentire Point, you can look across Padstow Bay towards Stepper Point with its daymark, while from The Rumps, with its Iron Age earthworks, you can view the rocky, unspoilt coastline of Port Quin Bay. You may spot seals, dolphins and porpoises.

Next time, we will in Port Isaac, a fishing village on the North Cornwall coast, also known as Portwenn in the hit television series, Doc Martin.
