TODAY we complete our journey along the north coast of Cornwall as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Since turning north east at Land’s End, we’ve been following the rugged and wild coast through many varied and interesting locations.

“We’ve also visited many of the towns and villages, including St Ives, Hayle, Perranporth, Newquay, Mawgan Porth, Padstow, Polzeath, Tintagel and Boscastle, sited on or near the coast, arriving now in the Bude area.”

Bude is the main holiday resort in the north eastern corner of Cornwall, not far from the border with Devon.

There are several good beaches in or close to the town. The main beach is Summerleaze which is just a short walk from the town centre.

This large beach, with its beach huts, sand dunes, river and breakwater, also features the Bude Sea Pool which is run by volunteers and free for beach-goers to use.

Just around the corner from Summerleaze is Crooklets which saw the creation of the first surf life saving club in the country in the 1950s.

North of the town are Northcott Mouth, Sandymouth Bay and Duckpool.

When in Bude, don’t miss the attractive areas around the town’s canal and the Castle Heritage Centre.

The ancient town of Stratton is just inland from Bude.

Next time, we will be visiting the historic border town of Launceston, which in Norman times was the capital of Cornwall.

Our lovely tour around the county, taking in well-known spots but also lesser-known locations, offers something for everyone, from brilliant beaches, magnificent moorland, storm-beaten cliffs and scenic rivers to welcoming towns, pretty villages, mining heritage sites and visitor attractions.
