TRIBUTES have been paid to a Newquay community stalwart who has passed away.

Pat Begley was widely known for his charity work, including his support for the Poppy Appeal for The Royal British Legion, the Royal Air Force Association RAF St Mawgan Branch and the Make A Wish Foundation.

He also supported mental health organisations including Newquay Mind, Mencap, Creative Workshops and Pentreath Industries. He also served as the commercial manager for Newquay Football Club.

Mr Begley’s funeral will be held at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 18, at 1pm, which will be followed by a burial at St Mawgan-in-Pydar Cemetery.

A wake will be held at Treffry Tavern Table Table in Quintrell Downs at 3pm where friends and loved ones are welcome to gather and share memories.

Daughter Jenni Harding said: “Pat’s legacy of kindness, service, and community spirit will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed.

“Also we would ask that in lieu of flowers we ask that a donation is made to Pentreath Industries where Pat spent time working and supporting their work in the community.”

Alan Goudge added: “I cannot speak more highly of Pat. His attention to detail and exuberance to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal those years ago hit different dimensions and funds beating previous years efforts.

“He also was a loyal member of the Royal Air Force Association RAF St Mawgan Branch. RIP Pat you know what you have done here in Newquay, and you will be sorely missed.”

Cheryl Byrne said: “Pat was an absolute gentleman. I was able to work alongside Pat as a volunteer for the Poppy Appeal and had the utmost respect for him. He put 100 per cent effort into the appeal. Pat will be sorely missed.”
