THE job centre in Newquay is reflecting on a year of success after helping hundreds of people into work.
Staff at Newquay Jobcentre in East Street have worked hard to build strong partnerships with local employers and host well-attended jobs fairs.
The team is looking forward to creating even more opportunities in 2026 by expanding services further and through its Youth Hub, which provides tailored support for young people, offering CV advice, interview tips, and direct links to local employers.
Employer adviser Natalie said: “It’s been a busy and rewarding year for our Jobcentre. Our team has worked tirelessly to connect jobseekers with opportunities and businesses with the right talent. From forging new partnerships—some even recruiting on-site—to hosting packed jobs fairs both online and in person, we’ve made a real difference.
“Specialist events for young people and the over-50s have been a highlight, alongside our growing links with local businesses. These collaborations help us match people to jobs faster and more effectively.”
One standout event was a bespoke recruitment fair supporting International Age Pioneers Week. Employers from a range of sectors attended, with Adult Social Care and Healthcare taking centre stage.
Jobseekers benefited from expert guidance provided by Smart Working Revolutions, the National Careers Service, and Cornwall College, covering employability skills, short courses, and careers advice. Pre-arranged time slots ensured attendees arrived prepared for meaningful conversations with providers and interviews with employers.
The event generated a “real buzz,” with many customers staying longer to explore the wealth of support available. Fifty five customers attended and many secured potential employment opportunities. Dedicated 50 Plus Work Coaches played a pivotal role in promoting the event and matching customers’ skills and interests to vacancies.
Employers praised the event as one of the most engaging and positive experiences yet, with great conversations and strong connections made.
Work coach Jade said “It was inspiring to see so many experienced individuals connecting with employers for advice and support. The event perfectly captured the spirit of International Age Pioneers Week—celebrating the wealth of knowledge and experience in our community.”
Natalie added: “We have hundreds of vacancies listed on Find a Job – GOV.UK, across virtually every sector—from hospitality to healthcare—and we’ll keep expanding our services to help even more people into fulfilling employment. “Our message to jobseekers is simple: if you’re ready to start your journey, your next opportunity could be just around the corner.”
