THERE were lots of thrills and spills as a group of surfers tackled the Cribbar reef in Newquay on Sunday, March 8.

Tom Major, Tom Butler, Owen Stoneman and Mawgan Taylor were among the waveriders to take on the giant swell.

Tom Butler experienced a spectacular wipeout after his board ejected from the lip, and he went airborne then straight to the trough of the wave, which was described as the “wave of the day.”

Photographer Geoff Tydeman who captured the action said: “It was a very hazy grey day with some mizzle in the air so visibility was restricted as was people’s cameras ability to autofocus. I spent a lot of time making the pictures presentable and easy to see what was going on.”
