A health food shop in Newquay has raised a healthy £1,400 for charity through staging its monthly social runs.
Sprout Health Foods staged its popular Sprout Social Run in 2015 in aid of Dementia Adventure, which helps people with dementia to access the wellbeing benefits of the outdoors and nature through supported holidays and training.
The monthly community group run takes place on the last Saturday of every month and is designed to bring people together through movement and conversation.
The run starts and finishes at Sprout Health Foods and participants follow a scenic 4.5km loop through the town, beach and coastal path, with a 2.2km beginner-friendly route also available, making the event suitable for children and those new to running.
Sprout founders Sebastian and Claire chose to support the charity due to their own experiences caring for family members with dementia.
Claire said: “Dementia Adventure offer support to families and shows them that dementia doesn’t have to mean the end of enjoyment, adventure, or connection.
Sebastian added: “Getting active and making conversation are simple and effective things you can do to prevent dementia or slow the onset.
“The Sprout Social Run is not a race. Everyone runs together at a relaxed, conversational pace, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all abilities. At the finish, runners and walkers can enjoy coffee and refreshments, with all profits donated to Dementia Adventure. This year we hope to raise even more money for the charity.”
The next Sprout Social Run takes place on Saturday, January 31 at 9am, starting from the Sprout courtyard. For further information and to register for the run contact Sprout Health Foods online or pop by the shop from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm.
