Concerns have been raised about the plans to build a new holiday park at Colan.

Residents fear Quintrell Downs would not be able to cope with the amount of traffic that would be generated. They believe traffic chaos in the area during the summer months will be exacerbated.

Residents are also concerned the holiday park’s proposed entrance would cause traffic accidents.

They are worried the area’s infrastructure including its doctors and hospital would come under extreme pressure.

Emma Mailard said: “The holiday park would cripple the village.

“We don’t have the facilities in the village to cope. Doctors surgeries are under extreme pressure. The road structure doesn’t cope in the summertime as it is with the influx of holiday makers and then Boardmasters.

“Quintrell and Nansledan are gridlocked.”

She cited concerns about the volume of traffic through the village and near the new Nansledan School, and went on: “The entrance isn’t a stone’s throw away from the school to the proposed site, which I strongly believe would bring chaos and accidents.

“We don’t need more holiday camp sites. What we need is more affordable housing for those locals who work and have lived in the area but have found themselves without a home due to landlords selling up or wanting higher rents and no housing on the market and being priced out of the village and as a result have to move away.

“The infrastructure like doctors and dentists are really more of a necessity than caravans, chalets second home owners that this village would struggle to cope with.

“Also the holiday businesses out there like Hendra Holiday Park, Piran Meadows, Altantic Reach, White Acres, Trethiggy Holiday Park are all within five to six minutes drive away from Quintrell Downs. Their businesses, a couple of which have swimming pools and entertainment, would be affected.

“I think investment in the Quintrell Downs and Nansledan facilities, doctors, bus services and dentists would be better as well as road improvements and safety. Not a holiday park of which we already have plenty.”
