A popular seating area overlooking Towan Beach is being improved.
Cormac has started work enhancing the benches adjacent to Fore Street car park, which is being funded by the Town Delivery Fund
Shirley Williams from Newquay Town Team said: “The work was to start at the end of June but Cormac has come early. They have roped off the parking bays along the seaside of the car park and will remove all of the benches including the memorial ones.
“They will then re-tarmac the whole length of the seating area and put back the memorial benches including plaques and nine new seats.
“This is being funded by the final monies of the 2024/25 Town Delivery Fund secured from Cornwall Council by Newquay Town Council with Newquay Town Team assisting in delivery of the projects.
“We could not replace previous missing benches at this stage but will seek additional monies to try and do this during 2025.
“These seats are used by a lot of local residents as we have had many conversations about the state of the seating. We are keen to reassure people about the memorial benches.
“Once Cormac have finished in the car park then there are repairs works planned in both Beachfield and Eothen Gardens.”
