NATIONAL chain store Home Bargains has been tipped to fill one of Truro’s largest empty retail units.
Cornwall Council has received a planning application for advertisement consent for four aluminium box signs, vinyls and one totem sign to be installed at the former Homebase store on Treliske Industrial Estate, near the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
A look at the plans reveals that the signs will be for Home Bargains and will include one of the retailer’s Garden World garden centre stores.
The proposal does not make direct mention of Home Bargains on the application form, but there is wording for Home Bargains and Garden World on an elevation drawing. The application has been made by TJ Morris Limited, the parent company of the bargain chain.
Homebase was one of the biggest stores in the Truro area and its closure in March 2025 left a prime retail space sitting vacant for 15 months.
Home Bargains is known for selling big-name branded goods – including health and beauty products, household items, food, toys and homeware – at discounted prices and now has over 600 shops across the UK.

The chain currently has a smaller outlet at nearby Threemilestone Retail Park, with other stores in Bodmin, Saltash, Camborne and Hayle.
