TRURO Old Cornwall Society (TOCS) will host a walk on Tuesday, June 23 to share the history of Newham Quays and the old railway line that is now the Newham Trail.
TOCS recorder Martin Wright will lead the walk along the riverside and up the trail to Lys Kernow/New County Hall, then downhill to the railway station.
The history of the quays and the industries previously based there will be described, and as well as the history of the railway, the various stages in its construction and the neighbouring features.
The walk is either on pavements at the roadside or on a well made-up footpath on the old rail-bed. A short stretch of the route is fairly steep, but most of the route is either flat or gently climbing.
The main walk is just under three miles, not counting the return walk from the station through the city back to Garras Wharf car park.
Meet at the entrance to Tesco car park at 2pm in time for a 2.30pm start.
There’s still time to make the TOCS Coffee Morning at Zafiro’s from 10.30am to 12.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday, June 16). Find out about the society, meet up with friends, or bring along something old and interesting to discuss.
