MEMBERS of the Oddfellows Friendly Society gathered in Redruth and Truro this November for two lively afternoons filled with friendly competition, good company, and community spirit.

The monthly meetings offered a perfect blend of fun and fellowship, featuring small prize quizzes, traditional card bingo, and a generous raffle. The proceeds from the raffles will be directed towards local causes, with members themselves voting on the charities or initiatives to support.

The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming, a much needed contrast to the wet and windy weather outside.

District secretary Pete English captured the essence of the gatherings, saying: “Despite the stormy conditions, the warmth inside was truly remarkable. It’s a reminder that, no matter the weather, the real value of these meetings lies in the connections we share and the support we offer each other. We are far more though, we are a Friendly Society with all that offers.”

In addition to the activities, attendees enjoyed a delicious selection of savoury pastries, Cornish Hevva cake, chocolate biscuits, sweets and fresh fruit, complemented by hot drinks.

The Oddfellows District Welfare Representative also took the opportunity to share important safety information, distributing free scam-avoidance booklets and RFID card protectors to help members stay informed and secure.

Another highlight of the afternoon was the popular book club where members were able to pick up free books, talking books and DVDs.

As the gatherings drew to a close, members were updated on upcoming events including lunches and free chair yoga sessions continuing to build friendships and strengthen the bonds of community.

With so much enjoyment packed into the day, both Redruth and Truro’s meetings continue to be resounding successes.
