NEWQUAY Carnival made a colourful return on Saturday with community spirit shining through.
More than 25 organisations took part in the sea, surf and going green themed Newquay Lions Community Carnival, which included everything from with vibrant sea creature creations to can-can dancers.

The procession, which has not been held since the Covid lockdown, got underway from Sainsbury’s and paraded through the town centre.
Among the groups taking part included the Wave Project, Blue Reef Aquarium, St Columb Minor Academy, Newquay Women’s Institute, Newquay in Bloom and Barnwell Equestrian Centre.
First prize went was awarded to Dicky Souray who dressed as Poseidon for the occasion. He was awarded a £150 voucher sponsored by Silver Breeze Jewellery.
Second prize was awarded to St Columb Minor Academy, whose pupils impressed with their creative creations and costumes, winning over the judges and sponsor, Rotary Club of Newquay.
The third prize went to Newquay Hospitals League of Friends, returning after a six-year break with colourful costumes and a float towed by Phil Trebilcock.
Alistair McKenna from Newquay Lions Club said: “We were overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries this year.
“It was truly heart-warming to see everyone get into the spirit and make this such a special event.
“This year’s carnival was made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, who rallied at the last minute to ensure prizes could be awarded for the best entries.
“Newquay Carnival Committee also extended thanks to Newquay BID for their grant funding and to the Lions themselves for topping up the grant to bring the carnival to life.
“Thank you to everyone. Participants, sponsors, and spectators for making the 2025 carnival such a memorable occasion.
“We can’t wait to start planning for the 2026 Carnival, with details to be announced soon.”
A spokesperson for St Columb Minor Academy said: “Our amazing children paraded through town with spectacular jellyfish, dancing turtles and a vibrant parrot.
“Our very own 'Elton John Rocket Man' Crewdson proudly led the way with our school flag flying high.
“Special thanks to Blystra Arts for the incredible umbrella-jellyfish mashup and Newquay Lions for this fantastic opportunity.”
