THE festive spirit is well and truly alive in our town, and it has been my privilege to experience it firsthand at several wonderful events this past week.
The Christmas week began beautifully for my family and me at St Michael’s Church on Saturday night, where we enjoyed a wonderful festive performance from the Newquay Singers. Their joyful renditions of classic carols perfectly set the tone for the coming weeks.
The true meaning of Christmas, community and kindness, was on full display through the fantastic charitable appeal organised by L&K Travel and J Savage Financial. I was pleased to support their efforts, attending both the fundraising raffle at Project 83 and the gift-giving event at St Michael’s on Tuesday. Well done to all involved for ensuring those in need feel the warmth of our community this Christmas.
Away from the tinsel, I was also delighted to join Newquay AFC on Saturday to officially open their brilliant new changing facilities. Catching the team in high spirits before their match clearly paid off, as they went on to a spectacular 3–0 victory over Bridgewater. To see the renovated facilities and the passionate support for our local club was heartwarming. Whether you're a hardcore fan or just fancy watching some local sport among friends, I highly recommend getting down to Mount Wise Stadium.
I hope you have a peaceful and joyful festive break. Let’s also not forget those in our emergency and essential services who will be working through this period to keep us safe and supported. Thank you for all that you do.
Phil Trebilcock’s Harbour View
After wind and rain, it’s looking like dry and cold for Christmas and beyond with easterly winds. It is quiet down the harbour now. The Rowing Club Singers have been around the town singing a few carols. The next venue is Headland Hotel at 2pm on December 31.
Last Wednesday was the anniversary of the loss of a Newquay lifeboat, 108 years ago. There will be a New Years Eve disco at the Rowing Club and fireworks in the harbour.
Thought for the week: “Sometimes you go through the worst to get to the best.”
