A Newquay business group is launching a new street art trail initiative to help boost footfall.
Newquay BID is calling on local artists to paint a mural on a high street door as part of its Door Art Tour initiative.

The organisation is seeking a minimum of 20 town centre businesses willing to volunteer a door that an artist can transform into a unique piece of art.
Door Art Tour aims to connect different parts of the high street and encourage visitors to explore more of the town centre while adding “colour, creativity and vibrancy.”
The artist behind the winning door mural will receive a £1,000 cash prize.
The initiative follows the success of its Newquay Street Art Walking Tour, which has seen several murals created across the town centre over the past few years.

Mark Warren, manager of Newquay BID said: “The existing large-scale murals have already created significant interest on social media and are loved by locals and visitors alike.
“While Newquay BID continues to seek funding to deliver further major wall murals, the next chapter of the project is ready to begin.
“The Door Art Tour represents another step in strengthening Newquay’s creative identity.
“By increasing the volume of public art, both large and small the initiative will encourage greater footfall across the town centre, support and showcase local artistic talent, generate social media engagement, add colour and character to the high street and create a stronger sense of pride and place.
“A key principle of The Door Art Tour is creative freedom.
“While artwork inspired by Newquay’s coastline, surf culture, heritage and independent spirit is welcomed, artists will be given genuine artistic licence.
“We want creativity to flourish and are keen to avoid over-prescribing themes or restricting ideas.
“The success of the project depends on artists feeling inspired rather than constrained.
“Participating businesses will therefore be asked to collaborate positively and avoid unnecessary limitations, ensuring the final pieces feel authentic to the artist’s style while remaining suitable for a public-facing town centre setting.
“Newquay’s street art journey is continuing to evolve and this next phase invites businesses, artists and the public to be part of it.”

A spokesperson for Newquay BID added: “How it works is businesses volunteer a suitable door and secure landlord or building owner permission. Local artists apply to take part.
“Artists are matched with participating businesses. Artists and door owners agree the final concept collaboratively.
“All completed murals will be featured on the Love Newquay website and across social media, where the public will be invited to vote for their favourite design.
“The application process is designed to keep the project open, accessible and exciting for artists of all styles and backgrounds.
“Participating businesses are also encouraged, where possible, to support their artist with small gestures such as refreshments or vouchers helping to create a strong community feel around the project.”
All murals must be completed and photographed by March 31. The winner will be announced in mid-April.
