RESIDENTS have chipped in to help make Newquay a greener and more sustainable place.

Newquay Town Council’s environment team has been chipping the Christmas trees people have donated.

The chippings will be used in several community locations, including Polwhele Permaculture Garden and to help fill holes in the car park at South Fistral.

Newquay Town Council organised a Christmas tree drop-off point at South Fistral car park until January 31.

A council spokesperson said: “Chipping a real Christmas tree produces around 3.5kg of CO₂, compared with around 16kg if it goes to landfill, so recycling a Christmas tree makes a real difference to Newquay’s carbon footprint.

“We would like to thank everyone who dropped off a tree. The support helps make Newquay a greener and more sustainable place.”
